If you choose to have a Humanist wedding, you can be married amongst beautiful scenery, on a boat, in an interesting building, in your own garden or in any other setting which has particular significance for you. The words and music and the whole ceremony will reflect your own tastes and deepest feelings and you can be sure that your friends and family will never forget your very special wedding. It does not have to be an expensive option.
The British Humanist Association has trained celebrants who can make it easy for you to plan precisely the ceremony you want. Your Humanist wedding will be different from that of any other couple, because it will be just for you. With the help of the celebrant, you will choose the vows you want to make, the readings you prefer, the music and the whole structure of the ceremony. The celebrant will conduct the ceremony and fit in with your wishes.
The main characteristics of the Humanist ceremonies are their very personal nature and the dignified and touching way in which the bride and groom are able to voice their hopes and aspirations in front of their family and friends. Humanist weddings are not yet recognised in law, which means that most couples will have a quiet Registry Office ceremony, before what they see as their real wedding.
We have had Humanist weddings in the Winter Garden at Hexham Queen Elizabeth High School, Durham Castle, in St. Mary's Lighthouse, in stone circles, woods, castles, National Trust properties, in elegant hotels and a farming couple was married at Kirkley Hall.
